Dwight Eisenhower Essays - Dwight D. Eisenhower, Free Essays

Dwight Eisenhower Essays - Dwight D. Eisenhower, Free Essays Dwight Eisenhower If you listened in history class you probably have heard his name before. He was born in a small town called Deniso in western Texas in the year 1890 (Hargrove 22).Then he and his family moved to a railroad town called Abilene in the state of Kansas. Here Dwight Eisenhower grew up with his 13 other family members. (Hargrove 19). Dwight David Eisenhower is one of Americas greatest heroes with his military career to his two terms as President of the United States. Dwight Eisenhower had many accomplishments to and from West Point through World War One. Ike Eisenhower wanted to serve his country in any way he could. He found the idea of being a sailor in the U.S Navy intriguing, but when he later applied for entering he found that he was too old at the age of 20. Then after studying hard Eisenhower was accepted at the West Point Military Academy with the help of a U.S senator (Hargrove 33). At college Ike showed himself as a hero on the Army Football team as an end (Hargrove 34). He also found an easier procedure for working advanced calculus (Hargrove 36). At the end of his college career in 1915, Eisenhower graduated number 61 out of a class of 164 (Hargrove 38). Eisenhower's military journey began during World War One. When he graduated college World War One was still raging through Europe. Instead of fighting in the infantry overseas Eisenhower was to stay home on U.S bases (Hargrove 41). After being promoted to a Lieutenant Colonel, Eisenhower was sent to Camp Colt to train soldiers about tanks (Hargrove 42). Then in the year 1933 he became one of the important advisers to General Douglas MacArther (Hargrove 45). Dwight David Eisenhower worked his way up through the ranks during World War Two and then led the Allies to victory in D-Day. Dwight showed his skill of organizing the movement of large numbers of troops. He was then promoted several times in the next few years. Then in 1941 Eisenhower was promoted to Chief of Staff of the Third Army (Hargrove 49). Then shortly after the promotion to "Chief of Staff", Ike was again promoted to the position of Brigadier General (Hargrove 50). Soon he was put in charge of the Allied forces in Europe (Hargrove 52). He now controlled the armies of the United States, Britain, and Canada (Hargrove 7). Eisenhower and other Allied Generals planned the invasion of Normandy (Hargrove 12). Eisenhower would lead the 6,483 sea vessels, about 800,000 men, and 12,000 aircraft across the English Channel to Normandy France (Benson 12). Eisenhower had hoped that the Germans would fear an invasion at the close French city of Calais ("The Beaches of..." 9). There were to be five beaches invaided with the code names; Omaha, Utah, Gold, Sword, and Juno ("The beaches of..." 28). In the end Dwight D. Eisenhower led the Allies to victory on June 6,1944. If Eisenhower had made a wrong choice, Hitler would have continued to rain V-1 & V-2 rockets on London (Benson 7). Eisenhower had now successfully completed the most important invasion in history wiping out all most 100% of German units. Luckily Allied forces only suffered 76% casualties (Barry 30). Dwight Eisenhower was one of the most popular and successful presidents in our country's history. Eisenhower was elected to the office of president twice. His first term with vice president Richard Nixion began in 1952 (Hargrove 65). Then again in 1956 Dwight Eisenhower was reelected to president winning by a landslide (Hargrove 76). Dwight Eisenhower solved many problems of his era. He helped to stop the Korea war with peacetalks (Hargrove 67). Eisenhower also enforced the desegregation of public schools making way for the start of equal schooling (Hargrove 79). Dwight Eisenhower substantially helped prevent what could have been an all out war in the Middle East (Reeder 149). Eisenhower started many important programs and made great advancements in the United States. "The atom, once mans' slayer will now become his most productive servant". This is what Eisenhower said when he pushed for the start of the International Atomic Agency (Reeder 145). He also organized the Army to create a space program, which eventually launched Explorer I (Hargrove 81). President Eisenhower signed the two last states into the Union, Alaska and Hawaii (Hargrove 82). He also started to build a mass network of interstate across the country from coast to coast (Hargrove 82). On January 20, 1961 Dwight Eisenhower left the office of President and was succeeded by newly-elected President John F. Kennedy (Hargrove 87). In

Tactile, Tangible, and Tractable

Tactile, Tangible, and Tractable Tactile, Tangible, and Tractable Tactile, Tangible, and Tractable By Mark Nichol What’s the difference between tactile and tangible? Very little- and they are cognate, sharing the same Latin source- but there is a subtle distinction in their use. Tactile, from the Latin term tactilis, by way of the French word tactile, and ultimately from the verb tangere, meaning â€Å"touch,† refers to things that can be touched and to the action of touching. For example, very young children, who learn about the world by manipulating objects, are said to be highly tactile. Unlike tangible, tactile does not have a direct antonym. Tangible, meanwhile, also derived from tangere, pertains more generally to things that can be touched. A tangible reward, for example, is something that can actually be handled, such as a trophy, as opposed to an intangible reward, such as an accolade; the word also applies to things that can be realized rather than simply conceived of. (Like, tactile, it has an intermediate and identical French form; it comes from a Latin noun derived from tangere that refers to touchable things.) An etymologically unrelated but similar-looking synonym is tractable. It’s most common sense is â€Å"manageable,† but it can also mean â€Å"touchable.† Its antonym, intractable, refers to a problem (or a person) that is very difficult to manage. A handful of additional words have similar meanings. Palpable is a direct synonym of tangible but can also simply mean â€Å"obvious† or â€Å"unmistakable.† Perceptible means â€Å"able to be noticed with one’s senses.† Appreciable and ponderable both have that same meaning and an additional sense of â€Å"measurable.† Sensible also applies to what can be perceived but has additional related meanings, as well as pertaining to having good sense. Manifest has literal and figurative senses, pertaining either to something clearly shown or visible or to something easy to recognize or understand. Only palpable and sensible have direct antonyms (impalpable and insensible). Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? What is the role of social media in the field of journalism-LITERATURE Term Paper

What is the role of social media in the field of journalism-LITERATURE REVIEW - Term Paper Example acquire more traffic especially from the young generation, media corporations have also followed their consumers onto online space by creating social media sites. Apart from generating traffic, media corporations have also embraced social media forms of journalism in a move to be at par with competitors (Kerrigan & Graham, 2010). Apart examining values of journalism, the study will also analyze its contribution to the online community. In the current generation, it would be quite unfortunate for journalism corporations not to embrace the rapidly growing technology, especially in social media. This is due to the fact that social media is of great importance to the journalism network. Embracing social media is no longer an option since it is one of those things that are a â€Å"must have† for all journalists. Unlike previous generations, the current one is quite literate and normally spends most of the time seeking information on the internet; this is clear indication that it is rare for them to get information from hard copy materials such as books, magazines and newspapers. Because of this, journalists ought to change the ways in which they relay information to the public. Since most people depend on social media for information, journalists have no option but embrace them too. Studies so far conducted show that apart from Facebook, other common social media platforms include twitter, LinkedIn and MySpace ( Oh, Agrawal & Rao, 2013). The 21st generation is quite inquisitive to the extent that it is not possible for them to wait until the next day so that they can read about a trending story. To them this is a long time for a generation normally yearning for information. Therefore, by embracing social media, journalists are in a position to post up to date information on what is trending not only in the US but also globally. By doing so, people will become interested with journalists and media corporations that post instant news hence resulting to traffic that is

Hayao Miyazaki Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Hayao Miyazaki - Essay Example It left an impeccable impression on him especially the movie’s heroine. It is here that Miyazaki realized the folly of him trying to pursue manga writing by simply aping what was the trend at the time. So he decided to chase his true feelings even if it was deemed foolish (McCarthy). Thus to manage as an animator, he first had to understand the art of human anatomy. He finally graduated from Gakushuin in 19963 with two degrees: political science and economics but also having been a member of the university’s ‘’Children’s Literature Research Club’’ roughly a comic club those days. With a career spanning well over six decades, Miyazaki has attained international acclaim as an anime expert and also co-founded studio Ghibli, a film animation studio with Isao Takahata. His success in animation videos is only comparable to American animator Walt Disney, British animator Nick Park and American director Steven Spielberg. Having been raised in T okyo, Miyazaki ventured into his animation career in 1961 with Toei Animation. While working as an in between artist for Gulliver’s travels Beyond the Moon, he pitched his own ideas that eventually became the movie’s ending. ... He left Toei in 1971 and joined Mushi Production, A Pro, Nippon Animation and TMS Entertainment where he co-directed 14 episodes of the first Lupin III series with Isao Takahata. This was when he was able to direct his first ever feature film Lupin; The Castle of Cagliostro, 1979. The two then began a pre-production a Pippi Longstocking series and after investing in writing extensive storyboards for it he travelled to Sweden to acquire permission from the concept owner Astrid Lindgren. Permission was denied and hence the project was not able to be completed. They decided to abandon it altogether. He decided to conceive his own and write it, Panda! Go, Panda! was the result. These were two shorts directed by Takahata. Future Boy Conan (1978) was an adaptation of the children’s novel ‘The Incredible Tide’ By Alexander Key. The series’ success was attributed to the fact the it elaborates on the characters and events of the book, Miyazaki’s later works a lso provide a recurrence of these characters for example a girl who is In touch with nature, a warrior woman who appears menacing but is actually far from an antagonist and finally a boy who is very determined to get the girl. There was also a feature on imaginative croft designs in the series. ‘Future Boy Conan’ therefore immensely served as a base on which Miyazaki would later refer to in his later works and therefore provide a continuity. In 1984, Nausicaa of the valley of the wind was an adventure film that successfully introduced major recurrent themes like the human impact on the environment and a concern with ecology; a fascination with aircraft and flight; feminism and other morally

That actions used to satisfy the wants of an organisations target market and at the same time achieve its marketing objectives. (Stanton) 1994. http://www.marketingteacher.com/image/content/mmix.gif Product- this feature of marketing mix is including planning, developing and producing the right category of products and services in the market by an organisation. In short words what is the quality of the product, size of the product? How is it looks like, design of the product, value of the product, about packaging, testing and range etc? Product of Hilton Price- To fix a right price of product is a most difficult task. Price of the product should be reasonable and affordable so organisation can sell their product easily and successfully in the market. There are lots of steps between set the right price for example: determination of unit price of the product, pricing policies and strategies, discounts, credits, cost, terms of delivery, payment, competitive price credit policy etc. Price of Hilton hotel Place- It is called distribution channels, storage and warehousing, coverage channel, inventory management, selection channel, distribution logistics etc. Management of organisation is responsible to choose and deal with distribution channels so customers can get the product at right place at right time. They should develop physical distribution. Wholesalers and retailers are most important channels which are used for physical distribution of goods. Place for Hilton hotel Promotion- the fourth p is promotion it does include determination about direct marketing, sales promotion, advertisements, publicity, exhibitions, public relations activity etc. Most important tools are advertisements and sales promotion which are used to promote the sale of products of organisations. Promotional activities are free distribution of sample of product, contests etc. These types of tools are expressive which does help to beat the competition in the market to organisation. Advertisements are used to communicate and pass the information to customers and consumers about the features of product through television, internet, newspapers and magazines, radio, billboards, banners and posters etc. Limitations Doing advertisements or promotion is expensive tool but there is lots of advertisements on the television and internet so people can get fed up thats why mostly people ignore the advertisements on television they just skip the channels when the advertisements comes in front of them. Some people do not read the advertisements on newspapers and magazines. Promotion about Hilton Branding- branding is a unique name and identity of the company. It is a procedure of mark and stamp to the product with identify look, design and logo etc. So customers and consumers can get idea about the features of product from the name, look, logo, mark and design. Network and customer relationships marketing strategies- Marketing take place in public relationship. For an organisation should have good and strong relation with society to fight the competition in the market. They should build strong network into the market with stakeholders. Now a days every organisation have customer care department to sort out the problems of customers and they have call centres as well as they have online customer care facility via internet so customers can call them or email them regarding their problems. At the Hilton organisation management realises that the companys team member added value and quality to the business. In fact it is the people working for the organisation that makes the Hilton hotels corporation such an international success. A hotel is an actual physical product, but a lot of the experience of visiting a hotel relates to the service offered by its staff to the customers. At Hilton hotel organisation management realises that staff treat customers with about same degree of respect as they themselves are treated by their employers. If staff are not treated and valued well they in turn will not respect or treat customers very well. They present to product into the market in such way, people can get information about the product from designing, promotion, exhibitions, advertisements, newspapers, magazines, mobile phone marketing etc. Marketing communication can be develop by direct marketing and indirect marketing. Personal selling, sales promotion, advertising, public relations these are all marketing communication. Those all tools are used for communication about product, which tells to public about the features of product. Organisation use marketing communication to achieve the market objectives and target sales. Communication is messages between one person to other person and in marketing it is between seller and buyer. E-marketing- e-marketing is an internet marketing, which is also called as an online marketing, web-marketing. Now a days every organisation use electronic technology for advertisements to gain the objectives. Technology plays a vital role for an organisation such computer based technology. Organisation create their websites, they send information about products online. Internet offers unique opportunities for organisation and customers to communicate with each others. It is a good way to build relationship with each other. Companies do promotion by direct email, advertisements on internet, by text messaging on mobile phones as well. People can know about the organisations and their manufactured goods to visit on their websites through internet. Organisation can do advertisements through social media for example: face book, twitter etc. On other hand some people do not trust on online information. These types of people prefer to go to the organisation personally so they can get information about the product from someone face to face. Guerrilla marketing activities and strategies- this type of strategy is a weapon for marketers and it is not very expensive it is low cost strategy. Guerrilla marketing is a unusual methods of promotion. This type of marketing does not focus on sales just focus profits, on primary success. It does expect highest results from minimum resources. But sometimes these methods of marketing represent the false image of brand, which is not good to get success for an organisation and survive for long time in the future. Viral marketing- it is blog marketing, forum marketing, email marketing and article marketing. This type of marketing is passed from one person to another person for example messengers are used for viral marketing. Social media is the best way for viral marketing. Public relationship strategies:-Public relation strategies are one of the promotional Mix (advertisement, personal selling, sales promotion, corporate image and Exhibition). According to Bill bernbach:- People cant believe you if they dont know what you are saying and they cant know what you are saying if they dont listen to you, and they wont listen to you if youre not interesting. The Relationship Between Gender, Race, And Geographic...

Data analyses were run to examine the relationship between gender, race, and geographic location and the participant’s frequency of physical activity and level of self-esteem. It was predicted that males would have a higher frequency of physical activity and a higher level of self-esteem than women and that self-esteem would be high in White participants than Non-White participants. Although the data was non-normal, there high sample size allowed the Factorial ANOVA test to be run to investigate the relationship between the demographics and dependent variables. The bivariate relationship between physical activity and self-esteem was examined with Spearman’s rho. An alpha level of p .05 was used and Tukey’s critical value was used for post hoc tests to identify the relationship between variables. Description of data Exploratory data analysis showed the data non-normal with high levels of skewness and kurtosis. Males participate in physical activity more frequently that females, while male and female self-esteem levels were fairly similar. Whites participated in physical activity more frequently and had significantly higher levels of self-esteem than Non-Whites. Most of the geographic location participates in the same amount of physical activity, with a difference between the North Central and South. Self-esteem across the geographic locations was similar.
